Introduction

The mind starts wondering with the thought of starting your own country. Threw out history the human culture has been dividing the boarders of the earth into subcultures of population. This process has been going on longer than recorded history and vary well started with primitive man claiming his hunting ground as his territory. Wars have been fought over imaginary boarders and belief systems. Languages and traditions have formed along with trade and commerce changing the earth’s landscape.

In the past, before the terms country, state and nation were conceived it was a much simpler process to start and form your own land boarders. All you needed was the means to defend them. As populations grew on the planet so did the need for protecting, feeding and organizing the populations within. Imaginary land boarders became more pronounced and the act of war became a common practice to gain more territory. Belief systems also started playing a roll in the segregation of territories much like the days of high school.

Now we can start to see the primitive foundation that started the largest real state boom in human history.

United Nations

The UN (United Nations) Started in 1945 with 51 original members and replaced the League of Nations that originally formed in 1919–1920. As of 2007 there are 192 current members of the United Nations General Assembly. The last country to be recognized by the UN was Montenegro on 28 June 2006. (Home)

Territories, States and Nations

Part two of the project looks at territories, states and nations. The latest research shows 245 entities, 193 sovereign states with international recognition and 192 member states of the UN. Vacation City has general international recognition and is a permanent observer of the UN but is not a member (923 residence and owned by the Roman Catholics) go figure. Eight states lacking general international recognition, 38 inhabited dependent territories and six special entities recognized by international treaty or agreement . (Madore)

As you can see I’ll have my hands full deciphering this rapidly changing information. With the proper research I hope to find out what it takes to start a country, nation or state.

Abstract

The goal for this research project will be to find out what it takes to start a country in today’s society by researching the international laws. Primary research will start with International Resistor Agencies, United Nations and our worlds Country’s and territories. Eventually research into micronations was added to expand the working knowledge of country formation.

This research project could very well have a question with no definitive answer as laws of the world’s countries and territories will vary. Because of this, the project will also be divided into three major categories. The first focused on the United Nations and what it takes to be accepted into their elite club of 192 countries. Second well look at examples of micronations around the world and finally look at transforming private land it into a territory, state, nation, and country based on the international laws.

As detailed in this report, starting a country comes with many risks and gray laws to overcome. It’s simple survival establishing a new country and avoiding being snuffed out by the larger nations. Diplomatic diplomacy between neighboring nations could make or break the new formation of a country. The monetary cost to start a country can also become overwhelming if not planned out in the beginning. But the thought of starting your own country is still be a fun day dream.
